Veterinarian & Medical Director
Dr. Maria Cartagena — affectionately known by staff and clients alike as simply “Dr. Maria” — is a proud graduate of the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with a focus on mixed animal practice. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary care, including wellness, surgery, dentistry, avian and exotic medicine, veterinary care for small farm animals, and more. Her professional interests extend beyond veterinary medicine to include client education and community service.
Dr. Maria is fluent in both English and Spanish. Dr. Maria moved to Houston at a young age and is an unabashedly proud Texan, although she has lived in three different countries during her lifetime and visited many others. She, her husband, and her daughters are proud to call Galveston home. In fact, her second daughter is a true Galveston “BOI.”
Dr. Maria is the proud owner of four rescue cats, two rescue dogs, goats, backyard chickens, a corn snake, and a horse.
